Scope

Ancient and medieval trade (Indian Ocean and overland); religious and artistic transmission; girmitiya / indenture histories; modern diaspora; imports that became “Indian” (crops, instruments, words, institutions) without embarrassment.

Out of scope / common mistakes

One-way glory narratives; treating foreign origin as impurity; diaspora only as remittance totals; erasing coercion in indenture while telling the story.

Care rules

Two-way history is a moral and accuracy commitment — it inoculates against chauvinism. Indenture and trauma: dignity and good scholarship, no melodrama-for-clicks. Synthesis and colonial-era institutions are historical topics — neither triumphal nor erased.
